Single-Deck Blackjack Basic Strategy Chart — Dealer Stands on Soft 17
A single-deck game with the dealer standing on all 17s and blackjacks paying 3:2 is about as close to a fair fight as a casino will ever deal you — basic strategy alone brings this game to roughly even. Casinos know it too, which is why the rule combination is rare and why 6:5 payout tables wearing its clothes are common. Check the felt, then play this chart.

Chart assumes double after split is allowed and doubling on any two cards. Where a play depends on a rule your table doesn't offer, the code gives the fallback — e.g. Rh means surrender if you can, otherwise hit.
Plays unique to this game
Single-deck aggression, S17 defense. The plays that differ from a shoe chart:
- Double hard 8 against a 5 or 6, soft 13 and 14 against a 4, and soft 17 against a 2.
- Split 4,4 against a 5 or 6 if double after split is allowed; otherwise double.
- 7,7 against a 10: surrender if allowed, otherwise stand — the classic single-deck play.
- Stand soft 18 against an ace (the H17 single-deck chart hits it), and stand 9,9 against an ace.
- Hit 15 against an ace; surrender is only for 16 vs 10 and ace.
